The 10,000 Year Clock is designed to run for ten thousand years with minimum maintenance. It is currently being built inside of a remote mountain in Texas.
Visiting the Clock is a challenge. The closest airport is a few hours away, and it's a steep climb to get to the Clock.

While the mountain is prepared, the Clock is being assembled in Washington and California. The Clock is made primarily from special grades of stainless steel, titanium and dry running ceramic ball bearings.
The Clock will be powered by mechanical energy from temperature differences between night and day. In addition, people who visit will be able to wind it.
The first part of the project was to build the underground site for the clock. The project now is in the installation phase.

The idea was conceived by Danny Hillis. The clock is being built in partnership with Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.
