Great idea for new collectors considering winders. The right setting ensure it is correctly wound and will prolong its life on the winder or wrist.

Generally,
For ETA clones (2834/2824/2836/2894/2894-2) and 3135/3130/3186 you want bi-directional at the lowest rotations you can that preserve the watches accuracy. These can be wound clockwise and counter clockwise.
For Valjoux clones (A7753/7750), miyota, and dg2813 clones they typically only wind one direction and free spin the other. Determine which way it is installed and winds. Then set the winder to spin only in that direction for the lowest rotations possible that still ensure accuracy. Usually this is clock-wise but not always. Double check each one.
Lastly it’s easy to fall prey to amateur style of setting everything bi-directional at max spins. Don’t do this. It will cause unnecessary wear and tear and in some case will result in damage(uncommon) or loss of accuracy (common).
